Ted Lasso is a gem of a show on Apple TV. If I had been the Apple executive pitched the premise, though, I don’t know that I would have bitten. The show follows the main character – an American with experience coaching college football – who is hired to guide an English soccer team despite his dearth of knowledge about the sport. What makes Ted Lasso special, though, is less about the show’s plot and more about the main character – cheesy and kind and wise. His attitude slowly transforms the characters and team.
If this sounds too feel-good, don’t worry: Jason Sudeikis does a great job of subtly showing some of the character’s depth – especially when he is suffering through a family tragedy. Also, there are plenty of sexual references and profanities used. The show is not a wide-eyed comedy.
Warning: I found the first two episodes a little slow, but if you keep at it, you’ll find a truly great show.
I really enjoy Ted Laso too! The first episode of season 2 is good too!
Yes, I agree the second season is also really great :). Thanks for your comment.
