Sex Education is a gem. I admit that when DotE and I watched the first two episodes, I was on the fence, but DotE encouraged me to keep watching. I’m so glad I did, as the show ramped up to something wonderful. Sex Education follows a loveable 16-year old British teenager named Otis as he navigates adolescence, his mother’s career as a sex therapist, scars from his father’s infidelity, and a terrible crush on a girl he thinks is out of his league. His best friend Eric is charming, but really suffering as a gay teen in a heteronormative adolescent world. After realizing Otis has a tremendous talent for counseling, he and his crush Maeve successfully start an amateur sex therapy clinic at their private British high school. It’s hard to overstate how comedic, heartbreaking, and tender this show is.
This program has some graphic scenes of teens trying to and sometimes succeeding in gratifying themselves alone and together, so this show may be better for a mature crowd.
