You might think you have enough disasters on your hands right now, but there is a lot to be learned from Floodlines, a haunting podcast about Hurricane Katrina. The Atlantic magazine’s Vann R. Newkirk II does a robust job telling the facts of the storm and aftermath through interviews with victims and colorful descriptions of poor planning, missed opportunities, media errors, and flawed leaders all of which contributed to the disaster and severely delayed clean up. I listen to each episode with a pit in my stomach, but Newkirk’s narrative is too compelling to ignore.
