A Great Graphic Novel (for Adults and Children) to Enjoy When You’re on the Edge

After legendary Congressman John Lewis died a few weeks ago, I found an article online about the first time Congressman Lewis went to Comic-Con.

(By the way, maybe there is something wrong with me, but I welled up when I saw the main photo that accompanies that New York Times piece. Check it out.)

What? Yes, Congressman Lewis went to Comic-Con in 2015, 2016, and 2017 to celebrate the publication of a series of autobiographical graphic novels. Once I found out about the books, I requested them from our local library and jumped right in. I’m currently happily racing through “March: Book One,” and I would highly recommend it to adult and child alike. You will love this sweet and beautifully-illustrated book in which Lewis describes his childhood habit of delivering sermons to his chickens and his first, eye-opening trip up North. You will also find the graphic novel a fun, straightforward way to review US civil rights history for adults and teach it, for kids. Enjoy!
