Like many of you, we’ve been indulging in more screen time than is usual at our house. We have also been spending a lot of time together, so we’ve been eager to find a show everyone (both adults and tweens) can enjoy. We happened upon “The Good Place,” and although we haven’t finished all four seasons, I would like to put a plug in for this sweet show that generally has good messages, while indulging in many unexpected plot twists.
The story revolves around a young, but salty, woman named Eleanor who has lived her life selfishly and therefore, is surprised to find herself in The Good Place in the afterlife. (Eleanor has a tragicomic death after berating a sweet environmentalist.) Eleanor soon realizes that her presence in The Good Place is a colossal mistake that she will need to that a keep secret if she hopes to continue her heavenly triumph. Her afterlife-assigned, kind-hearted soul mate is her unwitting accomplice. Hilarity ensues.
Admittedly, I had low expectations for this show, thinking it would be a mindless sitcom, but without giving anything away, it is not.
If you are thinking of watching this with kids, it might be worth reading the Common Sense Media review in advance to make sure it’s a good choice for your family.
